  1. The redwood is often confused with its cousin, the giant sequoia.  Redwoods are taller than giant sequoias, although they are not as large in total mass.  Another difference is that redwoods only live about half as long as giant sequoias.  Although they can live to be as much as 2,000 years old, they usually average about 500 to 700 years.
